Cumberland Pedestrian Struck By Van, Killed

One man is dead and another is in a hospital following an accident in Cumberland County Thursday night.

The Highway Patrol said a man was standing along Highway 401 North near Lou Street when he was struck by a van. He died at the scene. Troopers said the man was wearing dark clothing.

When the driver of the van saw the man, troopers said he tried to swerve and ended up running off the road and into the woods.

The driver of the van was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Troopers said a second car also hit the man.

No charges have been filed.
