Johnston County Authorities Investigate Shooting Of Child

Johnston County authorities are continuing their investigation into a shooting involving two 12-year-olds.

Investigators say a 12-year-old girl shot a 12-year-old boy in the back with a .22 rifle Thursday night inside a residence on Applewhite Road. The boy was taken to WakeMed, where he was listed in fair condition Friday.

According to investigators, the boy and girl are not related.

The shooting is believed to be an accident, although the investigation is not complete.
