Two Honored For Actions In Orange County School Shooting

Two men's quick actions during a shooting at Orange High School may have saved dozens of innocent lives.

Deputies say Alvaro Castillo drove to the school Aug. 30 and started shooting. Two students were slightly injured.

Russ LeBlanc, a driver education teacher, and school resource officer Deputy London Ivey tackled Castillo and were able to subdue him before authorities arrived at the scene.

Friends, family and students packed the gymnasium Sunday to say thank you to the men.

"The day this happened, I don't know what I was thinking. I just knew I had to help in some way," LeBlanc said.

"I didn't know I had that kind of impact on the school, even with what happened, but it makes you feel good," Ivey said.

Orange High Principal Jeff Dishmon was also honored. He received a medal for his distinguished service during the shooting as well.
