Nortel Not Interested In Acquisitions Right Now, CEO Tells Newspaper

Despite rumors to the contrary, Nortel is not interested in making any acquisitions at this time, Chief Executive Officer Mike Zafirovski told

The Toronto Globe & Mail

newspaper in an interview on Friday.

"We have more important things to do in 2006," Zafirovski said. The company will "focus on what we can do internally - strategically and operationally - and really to push out external activities to some time in 2007."

Nortel, which has a major facility in RTP, recently had been rumoured to purchase Force10 Networks.
