Georgia Picks German Scientist To Lead Avian Vaccine Developments

Egbert Mundt, a scientist from Germany, will lead efforts by the state of Georgia to develop avian vaccine development.

Mundt holds eight patents. Among them is one for a system to create vaccines based on reverse genetics. He will work at the University of Georgia as a Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar. His most recent position was with the Federal Research Institute for Animal Health in Germany.

Mudt has helped develop a diagnostic test for avian influenza.

Georgia is among the bidders for the National Bio and Argo-Defense Facility. (North Carolina also is bidding for the project.)

Some $1.5 million was raised to endow a professorship for Mundt. The

added $750,000.
