Taps Back On For Cary Neighborhood

More than a day after lifting a boil-water order for most of the town, Cary officials told residents of the only subdivision still affected by the order that they could start using their tap water Tuesday morning.

Tests last week showed E. coli bacteria in a water sample from the Coronado Village subdivision, which prompted Cary officials to issue a boil-water notice Friday afternoon for the entire town. The order was lifted Sunday evening for all of Cary, except for a dozen homes on Coronado Way.

Results from tests of tap water taken from Coronado Way Monday night showed no more E. coli in the water system, prompting officials to end the boil-water order for the 12 homes on the street.

As a safety precaution, officials urged those residents to flush their plumbing systems before using tap water. Town crews were to go door-to-door Tuesday afternoon to provide flushing instructions to them.

Authorities are still trying to determine the source of the E. coli contamination.
