Stop Signs Removed From Westbound I-40 Entrance Ramps

Stop signs have been removed from the westbound entrance ramps of Interstate 40 at N.C. 54.

Drivers will have room to merge onto the highway with the help of concrete barriers.

The signs first appeared in April, and are blamed for major slowdowns and numerous wrecks.

The stop signs on eastbound entrance ramps will be up for at least three more weeks.

The DOT said the stop signs are the only way to get the work done and ensure worker safety where traffic is estimated at around 90,000 cars a day.
