Authorities believe wet roads played a part in two accidents in the area Friday.

Raleigh police said the driver of a car lost control on Interstate 40 near Lake Wheeler Road. Authorities said the driver crossed the median and struck a pickup truck in the opposite lane.

Witnesses told police the driver was thrown from the car. He was transported to WakeMed. There is no word on the driver's condition.

Four other vehicles were also damaged in the wreck.

Another accident occurred on Interstate 85 in Granville County.

Troopers said a car driven by Debra Cofield hydroplaned and slammed into a tree. Her passenger, 42-year-old Priscilla Parham, died in the accident.
