Students who go to school near the state's nuclear power plants are getting protection.

Potassium iodide pills will be handed out to schools within 10 miles of the plants.

The cancer-fighting medications will be dispersed to schools by the end of the current school year.

Health experts say children up to age 18 are particularly vulnerable to developing thyroid cancer from exposure to high levels of radioactive iodine.
