Durham Police Arrest Chapel Hill Man On Multiple Armed Robbery Charges

A Chapel Hill man was arrested early Friday after police stopped him for running a traffic light near North Roxboro Road and Old Oxford Highway.

Durham police officers stopped Brian Keith West on Old Oxford Highway around 6 a.m. West matched the description of an armed robbery suspect that had been broadcast to police earlier.

According to police, officers identified West as the suspect and took him into custody. He was charged with 10 counts of armed robbery.

The charges stem from robberies at the Durham Hilton on Hillsborough Road, the VCR King on West Club Blvd., the Burger King on West Club Blvd., the McDonald's on Hillsborough Rd., three victims in the parking lot of Chili's, the Pizza Palace on Hillsborough Road, the Arby's on Avondale Drive and a strong-armed robbery on North Mangum Street.

Police said West also a suspect in three other armed robberies. He is being held in the Durham County Jail under $65,000 bond.
