North Carolina has its first case of a reaction to the smallpox vaccination.

Health officials say a nurse developed a rash nine days after getting the shots. The nurse did not become seriously ill and only missed work for a couple of days.

Right now, North Carolina lawmakers are talking about helping state workers who have to miss work due to smallpox complications.

The proposal would compensate state employees, law enforcement, first responders and their family members and not count against their sick time.
