Cumberland County Authorities Make Another Big Marijuana Bust

Deputies from the The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, along with special agents from the State Bureau of Investigation and officers of the Cary Police Department, made another big drug bust on Wednesday.

Deputies say Patrick Patterson, 35, was arrested around 1 p.m. after accepting delivery of approximately 400 pounds of marijuana at a common package courier on Doc Bennett Road.

The bust came a day after authorities seized 40 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on I-95 in Cumberland County.

Wednesday's bust also came a day after the Cary Police Department reportedly intercepted the marijuana at a common package courier hub in Cary, where it arrived from California.

The marijuana was transported to Fayetteville by the SBI, and Patterson was arrested when he picked the package up at the Fayetteville hub.

After Patterson took possession of the marijuana, authorities said a high-speed chase took place.

Patterson rammed a deputy's vehicle, forcing it off the road into a ditch.

Patterson eventually wrecked the pickup truck he was driving and then attempted to flee on foot. But he was apprehended a short distance away by officers.
