Daughter Of Slain Civil Rights Leader Speaks At N.C. State

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would have turned 73 Wednesday. The daughter of the slain civil rights leader gave a speech Wednesday in his memory on the N.C. State campus.

Yolanda King, the eldest of the King children, addressed an audience of approximately 200 students and faculty members.

King divides her time between acting and civil rights causes. King encouraged today's youth to become involved in their communities and to keep her father's dream alive.

"I am a child of the dream, but another reason I believe is because I choose to believe," she said. "Choosing is a very powerful act."

King challenged the campus community to re-dedicate themselves to living and practicing her father's dream.
