Chatham County Fire Victims Identified

Chatham County investigators said they have been unable to determine the cause of a fire that killed a mother and her infant daughter early Friday morning.

Fire crews responded to the mobile home fire on 950 Sugar Lake Road, east of Pittsboro, around 2:30 a.m. Friday.

Authorities said Bonnie Sue Coan, 42, and her 8-month-old daughter, Kaila Sue Sorrell, died. Firefighters found their bodies in separate bedrooms.

Chatham County fire officials, along with SBI and ATF officials, contributed to the investigation. The sheriff's office said nothing suspicious was found at the scene.
