McLendon Named ACC Rookie of the Week

North Carolina State's T.A. McLendon, who had his third consecutive 100-yard game rushing in a 34-17 victory over North Carolina, was named the Atlantic Coast Conference rookie of the week.

McLendon, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound tailback from Albemarle, played with his right hand in a soft cast after undergoing surgery for a broken bone 12 days earlier. He finished with a career-high 164 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.

The tailback also accounted for two of the Wolfpack's five touchdowns and nine of its 26 first downs against the Tar Heels.

Also from N.C. State, junior right tackle Chris Colmer of Port Jefferson, N.Y., was named the offensive lineman of the week. Colmer, a 6-5, 305-pound junior right tackle, graded out at 95 percent on 69 snaps.

Greg Jones of Florida State was named the offensive back of the week after rushing for a career-high 189 yards on a career-high 31 carries in the Seminoles 28-27 loss at No. 1 Miami.

The 6-1, 248-pound tailback averaged 6.1 yards per carry and scored one touchdown.

Wake Forests Calvin Pace of Douglasville, Ga., was named the defensive lineman of the week.

He became Wakes career tackles-for-loss leader and tallied a game-high 13 tackles in the Deacons 36-10 win over Duke.

The 6-6, 270-pound defensive end posted six tackles for loss (-17 yards) for a career total of 48, breaking a 10-year-old record of 46 set by Michael McCrary. After sacking Blue Devil quarterbacks twice, he lifted his career total to 27 sacks, four shy of breaking McCrarys record in that category as well.

Virginia freshman Darryl Blackstock of Newport News, Va., was named the defensive back of the week. He had 11 tackles (six solo) and a sack in the Cavaliers win over Clemson, their fifth straight.

Wake Forests Fabian Davis of Greenville, S.C., who tallied 151 all-purpose yards in the Demon Deacons 36-10 win, was named the specialist of the week.

The senior returned five punts for a total of 50 yards and two kickoffs for 67 yards.
