ARCA Driver Martin Killed in Crash During EasyCare 150 Practice

Driver Eric Martin was killed Wednesday in a wreck during practice for the EasyCare 150, the ARCA series season finale, at Lowes Motor Speedway, track spokesman Jerry Gappens said.

As Martin was coming out of the fourth turn, his car spun and rammed the outside wall backward, Gappens said.

Another car driven by Deborah Renshaw came through turns three and four and hit Martin's car on the driver's side at full speed. Renshaw's condition was not immediately known.

Martin's car was completely destroyed. The engine and a part of the wheel assembly sat on the track as the wreckage was lifted onto a tow truck and covered with a blue tarp.

A few spectators in the grandstand were moved back as they tried to get a better view of the wreck.

Martin, 33, is from Hixson, Tenn. He is survived by a wife and two children.

Renshaw, 25, is from Bowling Green, Ky.

Blaise Alexander was killed during last year's ARCA race at the Concord track when he was involved in an accident with Kerry Earnhardt.
