A crisis team will be available to students at Lee County High School Monday after a student collapsed during class and later died Friday.

Officials said Eric Mitchell, 15, collapsed during class Friday afternoon. A school nurse performed CPR and Mitchell was rushed to Central Carolina Hospital where he later died.

Mitchell, a freshman, was a member of the football team.

"Eric was very jovial, a lot of fun to be around, very rambunctious," teacher Charlie Spivey said. "We lifted weights in first period and he was so proud that he lifted the most weight in our class."

Mitchell's football coach said he was not aware of any medical problems

Officials are awaiting autopsy results.
