The events of Sept. 11 were remembered Monday in Raleigh at Fire Station No. 1.

A clock mounted on the front bumper of a fire truck ticked away the moments to 8:46 a.m. -- the exact moment when the first terrorist plane slammed into the World Trade Center.

"So as we sit here six months later and as these things seem more distant, I hope we all take time to remember how tragic it really was," Raleigh Fire Chief Earl Fowler said.

A memorial for North Carolina firefighters who died in the line of duty will be built in a park next to City Hall.
