NCSU Students Next In Line For Tuition Increase

Students at North Carolina State University could soon be paying more for their college education.

Monday night, Chancellor Marye Anne Fox held a town hall meeting for students, faculty and staff to outline a proposed tuition hike.

The proposal recommends a $400 tuition increase for the 2002-03 school year. The increase is a little more than the increases that have gone into effect at the university over the past two years.

"We've concluded that because of the economic downturn in North Carolina, and the rest of the nation as well, that we have to be quite aggressive in finding alternate sources of revenue," Fox said.

The proposal must be approved by the NCSU Board of Trustees and the UNC Board of Governors before it can go into effect.

In January, the UNC Board of Trustees approved a plan to raise tuition by $400 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
