Three Harnett County high school students have been charged following the beating of an Erwin police officer aboard a school bus last week.

David Williams, 18, is accused of attacking Det. Hank Hairr, who boarded the Triton High School bus to break up a fight after a call from the bus driver.

Williams is facing the most serious charges which include assault on an officer, assault on a bus driver, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and damage to personal property.

"The detective was not seriously hurt, just some minor bruises," said Police Chief Tom Chandler.

Two other male students at Triton have been charged with disorderly conduct. Two 14-year-old girls face juvenile charges relating to disorderly conduct, and others may also be charged.

All of the students who have been charged were also suspended from school.
