UNC campus community plans memorial for Carson

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will remember slain student Eve Carson with a ceremony on campus on March 5 – one year to the day she was killed.

Carson was student body president when she was shot and left on a Chapel Hill street in 2008.

The ceremony will begin at 3:45 p.m. and will feature remarks by Chancellor Holden Thorp and a performance by the Clef Hangers, a student a cappella group.

Carson's legacy is apparent in other ways on the campus she loved.

Junior Elinor Benami was named the first Eve Marie Carson Scholar on Feb. 6. The scholarship was established after Carson's death to recognize a student who makes outstanding contributions to the campus and community during their first three years.

An Eve Marie Carson Garden is also being planned for the southwest side of the Campus Y, located on the northern part of the UNC campus.
