The 2008 Wake County Public Library Book Sale collected nearly $182,000 for the county's general fund.

The book sale was held Nov. 19-23 in a vacant store on New Bern Avenue, offering books donated at local public libraries throughout the year and books removed from library shelves due to decreased demand. More than 350,000 books were available at the sale, and more than 97 percent were sold.

Close to 78,000 books were given away to the Wake County Public School System and agencies that receive county funds.
