Urban Ministries of Durham will mark 25 years of providing emergency food, shelter, clothing and services to area families this weekend with a three-day event.

On Thursday night, the donation of a canned food item earns free admission to the showing of "The Pursuit of Happyness" at the Carolina Theater at 309 West Morgan St.in downtown Durham.

On Friday morning, a panel discussion on the effects of homelessness will be held at the Golden Belt Arts Complex, 807 East Main St.

Folk musician Mary Gauthier will perform a benefit concert Friday evening at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 403 East Main St.

The public is invited to a day of volunteerism at the Urban Ministries headquarters, 410 Liberty St., Saturday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Volunteers can paint, sort clothes, stock shelves or help with landscaping. A potluck dinner will follow.
