Paratrooper to receive Silver Star

The 82nd Airborne Division will present the Silver Star to a paratrooper Thursday for his bravery in Afghanistan.

Sgt. 1st Class James Brasher is a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team. He exposed himself to enemy fire and saved the lives of several comrades during a Dec. 8 battle with Taliban fighters in Musa Qal'eh in Afghanistan's Helmand province, officials said.

The Silver Star is the nation's third-highest award for combat valor.
