The Superintendent Search Committee of the Wake County Board of Education decided on Thursday to hold off on reviewing recommendations for the position.

Representatives from the search firm Heidrick & Struggles were prepared to present four names for consideration at Thursday's search committee meeting.

Goldman, Chris Malone, Deborah Prickett and Carolyn Morrison make up the committee tasked with selecting a new leader for the state's largest school system.

The committee has decided to fine-the qualifications and criteria for the hiring process before reviewing the recommendations.

The committee has asked the search firm to return in two weeks with a list of five to 10 candidates for review.

Superintendent Del Burns resigned effective June 30 after a dispute about the direction the board was taking the district. Burns accused some board members of "political partisan gamesmanship" when it comes to educating students.

Donna Hargens, the system's chief academic officer, is filling the role on an interim basis.
