The Wake County Board of Education on Monday afternoon went over the skills being sought for the school system's eighth superintendent.

Representatives of search firm Heidrick and Struggles ran through a qualification list for board members. The information was comprised from interviews with parents, educators and students.

The qualities sought include someone good with handling money and growth.  The new superintendent should also be fair, transparent and able work to close achievement gaps.

A meeting was held in the board room of the Wake County Public School System's Central Services Offices, at 3600 Wake Forest Road.

The district is looking for a replacement for Del Burns, who resigned the position last June after four years in the job and 34 years with the school system.

Donna Hargens, the system's chief academic officer, is serving as interim superintendent. She has not said whether she plans to apply for the job.
