Henderson Co. principal is named state's best

Jan King, principal of Glenn C. Marlow Elementary School in Henderson County, was named the 2010 Wachovia Principal of the Year Thursday.

King was awarded $3,000 for her school and $3,000 for personal use. She also will be appointed to the State Superintendent's Principals' Advisory Committee, serve a one-year term as advisor to the State Board of Education, serve a one-year term on the Board of Directors for the NC Public School Forum and will chair the 2011 Wachovia North Carolina Principal of the Year Selection Committee.

King holds degrees from Peace College, Western Carolina University and Gardner Webb University. She has worked in the Henderson schools for 17 years, as a classroom teacher, high school instructional coach, assistant principal and principal.

She was Henderson County's teacher of the year in 2003.
