There's a new toy store in Garner.

KidZoom Toys opened in late August and there are plans for a grand opening celebration in a few weeks. According to owner Chad Reynolds, the store specializes in family-friendly and fun toys.

"It is really bothersome the amount of toys in the marketplace that are violent in nature or display women inappropriately," he tells me. "Our goal is to create a toy store where you can take your kids without being concerned about what they are seeing. As parents of seven children (No. 8 on the way), we care very deeply about the kids in our community."

As major chains like Toys R Us close and local stores like Stone's Education & Toys announce their own plans to shut down, Reynolds says the store fills a need in the 40/42 area. "We do not have any other toy stores within 20 to 30 minutes," he tells me.

KidZoom Toys is located at 5588 NC Highway 42W in Garner. You'll find it at Cleveland Commons next to Dairy Queen. It's open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
