The University of North Carolina Board of Governors on Wednesday named a system candidate as the next CEO of UNC-TV.

Lindsay Bierman, who has been chancellor at UNC School of the Arts, will assume the new role on August 12, 2019.

"We are delighted to keep Lindsay and his wide array of leadership and talent in the UNC System family," UNC System Interim President Bill Roper said.

As CEO, Bierman will have responsibility for the overall vision, leadership, strategic direction and success of UNC-TV, including oversight of a budget of approximately $28 million and over 150 permanent, temporary and contract employees.

Bierman served five years as UNCSA chancellor. Before that, he worked for 17 years at Time Inc. on many of that publisher's brands, including Southern Living.
