RDU gets new security lanes

Two new security lanes opened Friday at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The hope is that additional lanes will ease the hassle of getting to the gates in Terminal 2.

In 2018, 12.8 million passengers flew through RDU.

The airport has 66 nonstop destinations and 11 airlines.

Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the RDU Airport Authority, said the problem was not the wait time so much as a lack of space.

"Prior to those checkpoint lanes being turned over, 95% of our customers waited in line less than 30 minutes, but it became very challenging for our customers because the queue line was coming out of the checkpoint and staring to wrap around our building," he said.
