NC State picks up commitment from Wake Forest all-state LB Zane Williams
Wake Forest High School rising senior linebacker Zane Williams has committed to NC State University. The pledge comes five days after the Wolfpack offered Williams.
The all-state linebacker is a legacy recruit for NC State. Williams' older brother Seth played for the Wolfpack. Seth started as a walk-on but earned a scholarship shortly after.
Williams announced his decision to his Twitter account late Friday night.
Zane was named to the 2022 HighSchoolOT All-State Football Team as a second-teamer after a huge sophomore campaign. Williams racked up 142 tackles (10.9/game), 34.5 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks, four pass breakups, and a safety.
Williams was named Defensive Player of the Yearby the coaches in the NAC 6 Conference, one of the state's top 4A leagues.
NC State was the choice for Williams offers from Harvard University, Colgate University, Wingate University, UNC-Pembroke, and Lenoir-Rhyne University.
Williams is the second in-state prospect in the class of 2024 to commit to NC State. The first was Providence Day defensive back Brody Barnhardt.
Wake Forest finished last season with a 10-3 overall record after losing to Rolesville in the third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association's 4A state playoffs.
