Charlotte police officer helps delivery baby

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was directing traffic outside a charter school when she was flagged down by someone waving frantically.

Officer M. Brennan ran over to the car and noticed that a woman was in labor in the backseat, authorities said.

Brennan immediately sprang into action, according to the police. She put on gloves and started asking the new mother to push.

After just one push, the baby arrived. Brennan wrapped the newborn baby in a blanket and it began to cry. Soon after the baby was delivered, EMS responded to the scene, according to a Facebook post from the CMPD.

“I am a mother. I have children too," Brennan said. "I am glad I was there at the right time to help.”

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department did not provide the public with Brennan's first name.
