Blue Ridge Beef announced an expansion of its multi-state cat and dog food recall, which impacts North Carolina pet owners.

“This recall came after we notified the firm that routine samples of these products tested positive at our Food and Drug lab in Raleigh,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler.

Two-pound bags of Blue Ridge's "Kitten Grind," "Kitten Mix", and "Puppy Mix" are being pulled due to salmonella and listeria contamination.

The products were distributed Nov. 14 and Dec. 20. They were packaged in clear plastic and sold in retail stores located in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

The recalled products include:

  • Kitten Grind 2 lbs.: UPC 8 54298 00101 6
  • Kitten Mix 2 lbs.: UPC 8 54298 00243 6
  • Puppy Mix 2lbs.: UPC 8 54298 00169 6

The lot numbers and used by dates are located on the silver tabs at the end of the tubes.

Salmonella and listeria can cause the same symptoms in pets as humans, including fever, vomiting and lethargy.

So far, no illnesses have been reported.

The products in question were sent to stores in 16 states during the last two months of 2023.

Consumers who have purchased this product are urged to contact Blue Ridge Beef directly at blueridgebeefnc@yahoo.com for a full refund or destroy the food in a way that children, pets and wildlife cannot access.
