NC part of oyster recall for norovirus contamination

Oysters shipped to North Carolina have been connected to 10 cases of norovirus in other states.

Five people in Hawaii and five people in Minnesota have gotten sick; and the cases all trace back to oysters from Dai One Food Co., Ltd. in Republic of Korea.

In the FDA’s warning about this, 5 On Your Side found oysters from the same harvest were shipped to North Carolina.

Certain oysters from another company, Central Fisheries Co., Ltd. also from Republic of Korea, could also be carrying norovirus.

Restaurants and retailers should be getting rid of these oysters.

Here are the recalled harvest dates and lots to look out for:

-Dai One Food Co., Ltd. – Frozen raw half shell oysters, frozen IQF oysters and frozen oyster blocks

Harvested from Designated Area No.II between 2/10/22 and 2/24/22. Lot numbers DO20461, DO20471, DO20481, DO20501, DO20521, DO20531, DO20541, and DO20551

Harvested from Designated Area No.II between 4/6/22 and 4/21/22. Lot numbers DO20961, DO20971, DO20981, DO21001, DO21011, DO21021, DO21031, DO21041, D021051, DO21071, DO21081, and DO21091

-Central Fisheries, Co., Ltd. – Frozen raw IQF oysters

Harvested from Designated Area No.II between 4/6/22 and 4/21/22. Lot numbers C-20220407, C-20220410, C-20220411, C-20220412, C-20220413, C-20220414, C-20220417, C-20220418, C-20220419, C-20220420, and C-20220421

Most people with norovirus start developing symptoms 12-48 hours after infection. If you’ve eaten raw oysters and suspect you have food poisoning, you should see a doctor immediately.
