A man who was charged earlier this week with a weapon violation is now facing an additional felony charge in connection with the murder of his mother.

Salvador Bello Morales, 33, of Red Springs, was charged with second-degree murder Wednesday.

On Monday, Morales was charged with discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle. 

On April 30, Robeson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of Rennert Road and Cuz Drive in Shannon after someone was shot. Catalina Morales, 52, of Red Springs was taken to a local medical center for treatment in a privately owned car, prior to the arrival of deputies. She died on May 2.

The investigation is ongoing. The United States Immigration Customs Enforcement is assisting with the investigation.

Morales was not given a bond, and his first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday morning.
