NC gets $13M to boost low-performing schools

North Carolina is among seven states that will continue to receive federal funding to improve low-performing schools, the U.S. Department of Education announced Monday.

North Carolina will get $13.6 million under the School Improvement Grants program. The money will be administered by the state and awarded to school districts that show the greatest need and are committed to raising student achievement.

Tennessee is getting a $9.2 million share of the grant money. Wisconsin, Kentucky and Missouri are receiving more than $7 million each. Arkansas is getting $5 million, and Rhode Island will receive $1.6 million.
