AAA: Gas prices spike in North Carolina

Gas prices are on the rise in North Carolina, with daily averages the highest they have been since April 2019.

According to AAA, the state average has climbed 22 cents since mid-February, rising to $2.57 per gallon. South Carolina’s average climbed 23 cents and now has a current average of $2.51.

Experts say factors like a limited supply following last month's winter storm, and increasing demand, are behind the increase.

North and South Carolina are both in the nation’s top 10 least expensive markets, AAA reports.

The national gas price average has reached $2.77, rising 31 cents in the last month and nearly 40 cents more expensive compared to a year ago, which was right before coronavirus prompted countrywide lockdowns, officials said.
