NCCU student charged in shooting near residence hall

A Durham Assistant District Attorney said North Carolina Central student Eric Randall did not pull the trigger in a shooting at a residence hall, but conspired with a shooter, who police are still searching for.

This case is connected to a shooting at Lawson Street Residence Hall on April 2.

Randall appeared virtually in court from the Durham County Jail on Thursday.

The judge granted him a public defender and set his bond at $95,000. He was also told he cannot contact the victim, and he is banned from campus.

“The defendant willfully and unlawfully did conspire with Nick, an unknown shooter to commit the felony of assault with deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury to Tyonn Richardson,” said Assistant District Attorney Charlene Coggins-Franks.

Randall was arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon.

Tyonn Richardson was shot and taken to the hospital. NCCU police say more arrests are expected.

Randall is due back in court on April 22.
