NC A&T senior sets his sights on gospel career

A man with North Carolina ties is turning heads on the national stage.

Victor Solomon got a three-chair turn for his moving rendition of John Legend's hit song, "Glory," in his debut performance on The Voice.

Solomon is a senior at NC A&T University in Greensboro. He was elected Mr. A&T last year, but now his domain is a little bigger.

Solomon, who eventually picked John Legend as his coach, told WRAL's Ken Smith he's just trying to soak it all in.

"Life right now is just crazy," he said. "I'm just trying to live in the moment."

Solomon is deeply spiritual and credits God for his recent ascent on the show.

"I give all the glory and honor to god, who is the head of my life. I know I would not be here without him. I have to make it my duty to glorify him."

Solomon drew praise on campus after he ended a virtual graduation celebration with a performance of "And I Rise Up," which has been viewed more than 115,000 times on Facebook and YouTube.

Solomon wants to become a gospel singer and hopes his success on The Voice can springboard a career into music. He's currently on the N.C. A&T Fellowship Gospel Choir.

"It just means so much to me right now," he said. "I'm super happy. I'm super grateful and honored to be in the position where I am today."
