Nature Research Center hosts Teen Science Cafe on Friday

The free, hour-long program focuses on drinking water. The first 50 teens to arrive will get a free meal or smoothie.

The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences' Nature Research Center began hosting monthly Teen Science Cafes last year on the first Friday of each month.

And that means that Friday (Jan. 4) is the next one at the downtown Raleigh museum. The event is part of First Friday where downtown galleries, museums, restaurants and shops are open with special hours, deals or events.

From 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., teens are invited to the free event at The Daily Planet Cafe in the Nature Research Center, 121 W. Jones St. The first 50 teens to arrive will get a free meal or smoothie. (Just get there by 5:30 p.m. to claim and redeem the free food).

Friday's topic is "What's in My Water?" Dr. Heather Patisaul from N.C. State University will talk about where drinking water comes from, tap vs. bottled water, the pros and cons of different types of containers and the impacts of our water consumption choices, according to the museum's website. Then, participants can take part in blind taste-tests.
