Nash Co. mom charged with murder

A Nashville mother was arrested for first-degree murder in the death of her child Thursday.

Nash County sherrif's officers reported that Latonya Smith admitted to abusing her 23-month-old daughter, Mikayla Manning.

Medical personnel called authorities Thursday afternoon after Mikayla was brought to Pitt Memorial Hospital with a skull fracture and other injuries. The child later died of her injuries and charges were brought against the mother.

Smith was being held without bond.
