NAACP holds town hall meeting about race, class and poverty

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People took activism to the stage Wednesday night at St. Augustine’s University with a town hall about social justice.

The town hall meeting was the beginning of a two-day conference for people from around the country interested in the "Moral Movement."

“What codes are being used, and how they are used to divide the very communities that need to be together,” NC NAACP President William Barber said.

Activists, theologians, scholars and educators spoke about bridging the gap of poverty and ending racism and classism.

“If we want to have an adult conversation about race and class, I think we have to start with the reality that American politics is an amazingly money driven system,” economist Thomas Ferguson said.
