Multiple law enforcement agencies had to break up several fights that broke out at a Triton High School football game Friday night.

The Harnett County Sheriff's Office and the Erwin and Dunn police departments all responded.

The sheriff's office said there were multiple altercations that happened before Erwin police arrived on scene.

According to a witness, who wished to remain anonymous, The fights started around the third quarter of the game. All spectators, including the Westover High School marching band and cheerleaders had to leave the stadium.

By the time Erwin police arrived, the sheriff's office said deputies had the scene secured.

WRAL News is working to learn if anyone was hurt and if police have anyone in custody.

On Friday night, the high school announced the homecoming dance will be postponed.

The school provided a statement on the fight Saturday on their Facebook page.

"Harnett County Schools and Triton High School do not support violent behavior and we will not tolerate fights or any type of aggressive behavior at athletic events. Our games should be a fun and safe environment in which families can bring their children. We are extremely embarrassed and disappointed by the actions of some last night and we expect better behavior from students and community members. I want to thank school staff, the Harnett County Sheriff's Office, Erwin Police Department, Erwin Fire & Rescue, and any other first responders who assisted us last night in response to the incident. The Homecoming Dance scheduled for tonight will be postponed to a later date. We will continue to work with law enforcement on this investigation. The students involved will be disciplined according to our Code of Conduct."
