Durham police chase halted at Duke University Hospital

Two people were in custody after a police chase ended in a wreck outside Duke University Hospital Wednesday afternoon, Durham police said.

The chase started on North Roxboro Street after officers received a call about a shooting on Dearborn Drive.

Authorities said an officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it continued toward Club Boulevard. The driver then turned south on Hillandale Road, onto Erwin Road, and collided with another vehicle.

Four occupants in the vehicle fled the scene but two were later detained by police.

Nicholas Javon Banks, 20, and Larry Kirkland, Jr., 18, both of Durham were charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied residence, felony conspiracy, and injury to property.Banks was also charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and Kirkland was charged with felony hit-and-run.

Authorities said one gun was recovered.

Police are searching for additional suspects that fled the vehicle.

A house with three people inside and a vehicle were struck by bullets, but nobody was injured, authorities said.
