"The chance to join the film came about when I spotted a casting call for it on Facebook," Harden said. "With the shift to digital platforms during the pandemic, everything became more accessible. As an independent talent, I decided to apply for the casting call after doing my research, of course."

While waiting to learn if she’d get the big screen role, Barden also submitted her application for a role in Cape Fear Regional Theatre's production of The Color Purple musical. She scored a double success, receiving an offer to serve as an understudy for the musical and a role in the movie.

"Although I didn't get the part I wanted, I got the chance to understudy in the musical and was hired for the film," Harden said. "It was a whirlwind experience, at the same time, learning the film and musical."

Harden was able to secure a part in the juke joint scene, which allowed her to showcase many talents in this specific role.

"The atmosphere on set was electrifying; I was able to push myself and see what I am really capable of," Harden said. "Even at 5 a.m., after numerous takes and rehearsals, I was determined to give it my all, regardless of being exhausted."

She while working on the project many of them did not realize they were making history.

Harden mentions that the movie showcased individuals from different regions of North Carolina, including a skilled actor who has a main part in the movie and graduated from A&T University in Greensboro.

"It was a lesson in humility and acknowledging the small things," Harden said. "I am just still in shock; seeing myself on the big screen next to these stars is a dream come true.

While on set, Harden originally intended to fulfill one role but found herself taking on multiple roles as the directors recognized her dedication and talent during the filming process.

"I was also able to be a stand-in for Fantasia," Harden said. "As I was also understudying for the musical, I was familiar with all the scenes and knew how to act on the movie set, so everything fell into place seamlessly."

As the film industry recovers from a strike, new releases are now coming. Audiences will again be able to witness Harden on the big screen, sharing the stage with prominent figures like Queen Latifah and Sanaa Lathan.

"I learn that you really have to live in these moments, tomorrow is not promised."

In addition to this, Harden has upcoming projects on the horizon. Closer to home, she is also engaged in another upcoming film, including "The Supremes at Earls," filmed in Wilmington.

However, Harden's ambitions extend beyond the screen. As a single mother, she encourages others to follow their dreams and the importance of a supportive network.

Her advice is:

Sharpen your tools: Hone your skills relentlessly, seek out resources, and don't let financial hurdles deter you.

Big fish in a small pond: Don't underestimate the power of your local community. Sometimes, a smaller platform can offer greater opportunities.

Motherhood and dreams: Don't let your maternal role eclipse your aspirations. It's about finding that balance and making decisions that work for your family.

Harden started her acting career in Fayetteville at Cape Fear Regional Theater, performing in musical favorites like Mamma Mia, Dreamgirls and Music City.

She credits God, her family, friends and the city of Fayetteville for helping her succeed.

"I love my city because they have supported me and opened doors for me on some many levels," Harden said. "Because they helped me, I am able to help others get opportunities to be in films as well."
