Mowing the lawn is no sweat with Triangle company's robotic mower

Mowing the lawn can be a chore, but a new company in the Triangle take out nearly all the work.

Through the company Mowbot, homeowners or business owners can rent a robotic lawnmower that eliminates all the pushing and pulling of a traditional lawnmower.

The robotic lawnmower is the first to launch in the Triangle and is keeping the grass down at the American Tobacco Campus in Durham.

The machine is quiet, so it reduces noise pollution, and is totally electric, so it cuts down on environmental pollution too.

“Instead of a big, steel blade spinning inside, it has very small razor blades that cleanly cut the grass,” Mowbot CEO Tony Hopp said of the machine. “It’s a much cleaner cut and it’s a more frequent cut.”

Hopp said the robotic mower has a GPS to map the yard and sensors to avoid hitting fixed objects.

Mowbot, which launched in April 2017, offers full lawn care services but does not sell the robotic mowers.

“We’re out cutting all day, every day and night,” Hopp said. “It charges and goes out and mows, comes back and charges, goes out and mows rain, shine, day or night.”
