Motorist shot outside Fayetteville nightclub

A gunman shot a motorist during an attempted carjacking outside a nightclub on Friday night, police said.

Dwayne McKinney, 31, was asleep in his car outside the the Upscale Restaurant and Lounge, 225 S. Eastern Blvd./U.S. Highway 301. A armed man approached him and demanded that he hand over the car, investigators said.

McKinney refused, and the gunman shot him in the stomach.

McKinney was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition Saturday evening.

Police said they had only a vague description of the gunman and were continuing to investigate.
