The search is on for a murder suspect after an early morning shooting left one man dead in Cumberland County.

Deputies responded to a neighborhood on Summerwind Drive before 12:45 a.m. Thursday. The home has a Fayetteville address but is outside of city limits off Murchison Road and Shaw Road.

Family members say Kenneth Franklin Miles Jr., 25, of Fayetteville was shot at least three times at close range.

Deputies said Kenneth Franklin Miles Jr., 25, of Fayetteville was shot multiple times. He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

Sharon Gilliam, the victim's mother, says the shooting started with an argument that didn't even involve her son.

"Guy got mad with him because he had it out with another guy," she said. "He approached my son, and they had words, and he was like, 'Man, I don't got nothing to do with that. That's between you and that guy. Whatever y'all got going on.'"

Then, she says, the man shot her son.

Miles was rushed to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with several gunshot wounds, but he did not survive.

The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office spent much of the morning collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Investigators hope video from some of the security cameras in the mobile home park will help them to identify the suspect.
