Mother arrested after fentanyl death of 1-year-old in Winston-Salem hotel

Amber Dawn Martin was charged with involuntary manslaughter and arrested Wednesday by Stokes County deputies. She is being held in the Stokes County Jail on $80,000 bail.

A woman was arrested Wednesday for the April 30, 2020, death of her 1-year-old child.

WXII reports police responded to a Ramada Inn following the report of an infant not breathing.

A baby was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Investigators said the parents, Amber Dawn Martin and Eric Donnell Lash, were leasing the room temporarily. A 6-year-old brother was also present and unharmed.

The Winston-Salem Police Department seized needles, syringes and other drug paraphernalia.

Results of a toxicology test returned on March 3 determined the baby died of fentanyl toxicology, making her death a homicide.

Dawn was charged with involuntary manslaughter and arrested Wednesday by Stokes County deputies. She is being held in the Stokes County Jail on $80,000 bail.

Eric Lash died of an unintentional overdose on Feb. 3.
