Mo-ped rider dies in Raleigh wreck

A Raleigh man was killed Monday when his mo-ped was rear-ended on Capital Boulevard, police said Wednesday.

Bruce Robert Herrmann, 46, of Partridge Lane, was northbound on Capital Boulevard at about 2:15 p.m. when he slowed for traffic near Sumner Boulevard. A 2007 Ford pickup slammed into Herrmann from behind, pushing him and his mo-ped into the back of a 2002 Acura and then across the entrance to a parking lot, police said.

The driver of the pickup, Gilbert Allen Moore, 43, of 4561 Womble Road in Nashville, was charged with failure to reduce speed. Police said they would consult with the Wake County District Attorney's Office to determine whether other charges should be filed in the case.

Neither Moore nor the driver of the Acura, Tavaris Jermaine Martin, 37, of Goldsboro, was hurt in the wreck.
